Bissau - The president-elect of Guinea-Bissau, Malam Bacai Sanha, will be sworn in on September 8 after winning a vote triggered by the murder of the country's veteran leader, his campaign chief said on Monday.
Sanha, from the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, "will be sworn in on September 8", said campaign director Augosto Olivais.
The president-elect was declared the winner of a run-off on July 29 with more than 63 percent of the vote following the assassination of president Joao Bernardo Vieira in March.
The long-time leader was killed by soldiers in apparent revenge for the death of army chief General Batista Tagme Na Waie in a bomb attack.
A presidential official said a commission had been set up to organise the inauguration ceremony.
Sanha left for a visit to Angola in southern Africa on Sunday, which is a former Portuguese colony like Guinea-Bissau, the official added. - Sapa-AFP
